Two-Generation workshops…they’re back by popular demand!
Buffalo Promise Neighborhood’s Two-Gen program offers a comprehensive approach focused on family wellbeing; by connecting families with the tools necessary to achieve greater stability. The goal of Two-Gen is to equip parents and children with the supports and skills needed to thrive. Program supports include, but are not limited to, career coaching, financial coaching, securing personal housing, and overall health and wellness. The team recently kicked off the first of two workshops focusing on financial wellness led by Kelly Dockery, M&T Bank William Emslie branch manager. This workshop provided advice for staying on track and managing your finances by exploring the importance of credit scores, how to access your credit score, strategies to build your credit, and how to protect yourself against incorrect claims and fraud.
The second in the two-part series - Maximizing Your Return: A Comprehensive Tax Workshop provided sound advice on saving for emergencies, the benefits of a savings account, tips for managing debt, the best way to invest in a 401(k), the importance of having life insurance to protect your family and investing in your family’s future generational wealth. Finally, highlighting how to leverage your tax refund to improve your overall financial health.
Two-Gen currently offers one-on-one financial coaching with Kenya Peoples. Kenya is certified in credit counseling and credit score consulting. Clients can get assistance with budgeting, savings, credit repair, and financial wellness education.
“When people know how to make sound decisions about their personal finances, they become financially secure.” Kelly Dockery, M&T Bank Branch Manager
“Doing a budget with my financial coach and seeing the money I was spending weekly really changed the way I looked at my spending habits.” I. Cunningham, WCCS Family Member
Next up is a two-part parenting series facilitated along with our partners at Best Self Behavioral Health and Every Person Influences Children (EPIC). Workshop topics were chosen based on feedback received from our families. Our workshops are free and open to anyone who has a child attending Buffalo Promise Neighborhood Children’s Academy or Westminster Community Charter School.
Buffalo Promise Neighborhood is a long-term collaboration between M&T Bank and its community to empower schools, students, and families. We understand that learning and opportunity are intrinsically connected, and that success is most meaningful when its shared by everyone.
