Buffalo Promise Neighborhood welcomes approximately 100 new children to begin school at the second Children's Academy at Gerard Place.
The opening of Buffalo Promise Neighborhood’s second Children’s Academy has been the culmination of years of planning, hard work and dedication to providing the highest quality education on the East Side of Buffalo. We are proud to partner with Gerard Place (providers of housing and support services for homeless mothers and their children), to make this dream a reality.
The new Children’s Academy at Gerard Place will join our three other schools in the neighborhood, Westminster Community Charter School, Highgate Heights Elementary School, and the first Children’s Academy. We will continue to work with EduKids Inc. to provide the best possible education for our newest learners.
Just under 100 children ages six weeks to 5 years old are now enrolled at the new school. While we have significantly chipped away at the waiting list, there are still more children waiting, as quality early childhood education is in high demand on the East Side of Buffalo. All of the children enrolled live within the Buffalo Promise Neighborhood footprint, have siblings attending one of our other schools, or have parents that are residents of Gerard Place.
We were thrilled to open the doors for the kids this January. The brand new facilities located inside the Gerard Place building include state of the art classrooms, a brand new playground, gymnasium, kitchen, and even a community room to be utilized by Gerard Place residents and community members!
