One of our BPN Mentors, Renee, tells us about her experience as Big Sister!
Renee Davis is an M&T Bank employee who is passionate about making a difference in our community! She has been a Big since 2017. Read a bit about her journey below!
What made you decide to become a Big/mentor? Seeing the need in the community where I live for some of the students at Westminster Community Charter School & Volunteering at the school made me realize the need for more mentors in my neighborhood.
Tell us a little bit about your little! My Little’s name is Heaven & she loves reading, making cookies, (which we did for Christmas at my house) , going to the movies, volunteering along with me for bank events, (Juneteenth, the Salvation Army Bell ringer we did this year at the Galleria Mall) Her favorite color is purple & loves spending time with me as I do with her.
What is a favorite story about you and your little? When we were at the Juneteenth festival and she rode on the float with other little’s with the M&T crew. She was like the crowd Loves us!! Then we had ice cream after the parade was over.
Favorite outing? The Beach in the summer time
Has mentoring your little impacted your life at all? If so, how? Yes it has – the positive effect I have on a child and she looks up to me as her Big Sister is reward enough.
Any other thoughts, experiences, or stories that you would like to share… Westminster & the Bailey Association had Santa & a bunch of activities for the children – the Buffalo Bills game and also the Hockey game when one of the players invited us in their Suite was very nice experience for the kids. The sponsors for BBBS are amazing. I attended the Gala as well with my Aunt and she has inquired about being a Big Sister as well. I also encouraged my best friend of over 30 years to become a Big Sister & she loves it as well!
