Westminster Community Charter School threw its doors wide open and enthusiastically welcomed back our students from kindergarten to 8th grade! We were so excited to see our school community come together on the first day and are looking ahead with anticipation to the new year – Go Lions!
Taste of Curriculum, an annual Westminster tradition for many years, is our school’s unique take on a traditional Open House and attendance was brisk with almost 200 people attending our first event of the school year! Parents were able to meet their children’s teachers in an informal setting, get important information on what’s new for the current school year, and sample foods prepared by our Chef, Shannon Tegler, and her Café team. Staff was also on hand helping parents who required assistance navigating online portals such as eSchools and Class Dojo.
Additionally, community partners from the YWCA; our after-school provider, Buffalo Prep, Breaking Barriers, Young Women’s Empowerment Academy, UB Stem, Community Music School and WNY COSH spoke with our families about additional resources available to help support our students and their families. Buffalo Promise Neighborhood staff was also on hand to talk about our financial coaching program and provided a sneak peek at new programming focused on employment and housing assistance.
Once again, this school year will include numerous family-friendly community events such as Independent Health Good for the Neighborhood, Super Saturday, Family BINGO Night, Literacy Night, STEAM & Math Nights and of course who could forget our annual School Musical just to name a few! There will be no shortage of things to do, and we PRIDE ourselves on having something for everyone.
